Why is global action on NCDs necessary in the era of COVID-19?
NCDs are a global health and economic catastrophe that disproportionately impacts the world’s poorest people.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 28 million people worldwide live with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which include cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. By 2030, 60% of diabetes and cardiovascular disease patients will reside in low- and middle-income countries.
This report focuses on the issues faced by people living with NCDs, the impact of COVID-19 on NCD healthcare services, and the impact of aid reduction on NCDs and health systems.
The survey and report were co-authored by Dr Zipporah Ali (Chair, NCDAK), and Dr Helena Davies (Trustee of WHPCA).
