Project outcome
- 1. The project re-energised the National Alcohol and Substance Use Prevention Technical Working Group, which drafted Kenya’s first Alcohol Control and Management Strategic Plan aimed to strengthen the country's response to alcohol and drug abuse by enhancing enforcement and public education on alcohol use .
- 2. County Alcohol Control and Rights Monitors (CARMs) from 5 counties have been trained under the Alcohol Harm Reduction initiative conducted who have continue to create awareness in the communities with over 50 awareness campaigns done reaching 10,000+ residents with messages on alcohol related harms.
Project Focus
Reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and prevent NCDs through civil society engagement.
Project Objective
Achieve a society where communities, especially people living with NCDs, are empowered, rights are protected, and harmful effects of alcohol and other drugs are minimised by the end of 2027.
Project Activities: Advocate for the Draft Alcohol and Drug Abuse Policy 2018, implement legislation, redirect trade tax to support prevention and management of alcohol and drug use, and raise awareness via a “sin tax.”
